Q - Do I need a to get my learners permit to start the class?

A - You are not required to have a learners permit to start the class but you will have to get a learners permit before you start the behind- the- wheel sessions.

- 15 years 9 months

- I'm over 18 do I have to take Drivers Ed?

A
- Yes, all new drivers reguardless of age must complete a certified driver education course to get a license.
The course consists of 30 Hours of classroom instruction and 6 Hours Behind-the-Wheel instruction.
Additional or remedial instruction can be added to the course for students in need. (Not included in basic course additional fees apply)

- Do I have to get a Provisional License if I'm over 21.

- Yes, effective July 1, 1999 Maryland implemented a Graduated Licensing System for applicants, regardless of age, who have never held a license in Maryland or any other state or country.. In the Rookie Driver Graduated Licensing System, applicants progress through three levels of licensing: Learners Permit , Provisional License & Finally a Full License. The program requires new drivers to gain more driving experience with a supervising driver. It encourages good driving behavior by imposing strict sanctions during each step of the licensing process, such as driver improvement classes or the suspension or revocation of licenses.
